Welcome to Wellness

Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principles that the feet are a map for the whole body and aims to restore balance and a feeling of well being. Each part of the foot corresponds to a part, gland or organ in the body and a reflexology treatment consists of a routine including massage and pressure point techniques. Areas within the body which have low energy are stimulated while areas which are being overworked are soothed bringing the body back into balance and promoting self healing. Reflexology encourages the body to relax, enabling all of the functions and systems in the body to work more efficiently. It should be noted that reflexologists do not diagnose illness.

How reflexology works

Using a set sequence on the feet the reflexologist finds reflex points or areas that are sensitive or out of balance, corresponding to specific parts of the body.  Crystals may be found in the feet which are made up of uric acid or calcium which build up in the nerve endings. By working these congested points, the crystals will dissolve and are carried away in the blood aiming to bring balance and harmony back to the area.

Benefits of reflexology

There are many benefits to reflexology including:

  • Increased circulation
  • Improvement in sleep patterns
  • Balancing the body on physical, mental and emotional levels
  • Boosting the lymphatic systems which improves immunity and the removal of toxins
  • Restores a sense of well being

Tell me about the treatment

Treatments are usually carried out while lying on a massage table, however, seated treatments are also an option.  You will be asked to remove your socks and shoes and the treatment will begin with a gentle foot massage.  The reflexologist will then begin the set sequence, however, if areas of congestion are found these will be also worked to break up the crystals.  Once the treatment is completed a further gentle foot massage is given bringing the session to a close.
